About Us
Founded in 1893 and already the largest art museum between Kansas City and the West Coast, the Denver Art Museum will nearly double its gallery space when the new Frederic C. Hamilton Building opens in the fall of 2006. Designed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, the Hamilton Building will consist of geometric shards flaring out like titanium flower petals. The Museum's current striking building—itself a work of art—was designed by Gio Ponti of Italy. In addition to special traveling exhibitions, its galleries showcase some of the Museum’s 60,000+ works of art from around the world, including European and American painting, sculpture, design, and textiles and a world-famous American Indian art collection. The museum's collections of pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial art, Asian, and architecture, graphics and design are also very fine. Nationally recognized as a family-friendly place, the Denver Art Museum offers a variety of innovative and interactive programs, including the Just For Fun family center, Family Backpacks, the Kids Corner, and the Discovery Libraries.
